July 19, 2007
July 19, 2007 Brian Lackey called the meeting to order at 7:05 PM. Meeting was attended by eight members. Paul Carlstedt gave the treasurers report Opening Balance 6/16/07..... 670.90 Allnutt Room Rental June - 15.00 Closing Balance 7/19/07........655.90 Talked about FC wireless system, a new meeting place, auctioned off some books, etc from Peachtree Press and got out earlier than usual, since there wasn’t any particular program. The list of names show who was there. Not much else new. I would like to thank Myrna Miller for taking notes.
Following is a report from Andy Hinds on the new meeting place for August 16 and
Recycling old computers and monitors:Rocky Mountain Recycling DOES take computer monitors
AND TVs, but there is a small charge ($5 for monitors,
same or more for TVs, depending on screen size).
Meeting Place: I've reserved the meeting room at Home
State Bank, 303 E. Mountain Ave. from 6:30 to 9:00
p.m. on August 16. Home State Bank is in a large
building on the corner of East Mountain Ave. and
Mathews Street (two blocks east of College, one block
east of the Remington Street parking garage). There is
a meeting scheduled to end at 6:30 pm the same day, so
we may not be able to get in right at 6:30.
Re our discussion about recycling computer equipment:
Rocky Mountain Recycling at 1475 N. College will
accept CPUs and other computer stuff, but will NOT
accept computer monitors (or TVs). However, the
County Landfill has started accepting computers &
monitors, TVs, stereos, and other electronics (details
at www.co.larimer.co.us/solidwaste/Comp.htm)
There is a fee for most items (cash only; fee
schedule at www.co.larimer.co.us/solidwaste/CompFees.htm).
The following was a correction from Andy....
There was an error in the message above.
Rocky Mountain Recycling DOES take computer monitors
AND TVs, but there is a small charge ($5 for monitors,
same or more for TVs, depending on screen size).
This mistake happened because when I took a friend's
old Apple computer to them one or two months ago, they
would not accept the monitor, even for a fee. However,
today when I took the old FCMUG computers, they took
everything (charging $5 for the monitor). Who knows
why the inconsistency. But I did want everyone (esp.
Jacqueline) to know that I was mistaken earlier.
Thanks to Andy Hinds for the information.

Closing Balance September 20, 2007 $653.90
Business:
It was decided Home State Bank was a good meeting room but having to have a door attendant would be too burdensome. (The meeting room was in the basement and the entrance to reach the meeting room was at street level. It would be our responsibility to open and close the door for all to come in.)
Pam demonstrated her "shuffle stamp" for the iPod. Amazing so much in small area.
October Meeting will be at Allnutt Funeral Home
Program will be NOTEBOOK.
Door Prize was won by Pam Stevens; A MACPRO TUTORIAL

PROGRAM..........................7:45
Pam Stevens did a presentation on NOTEBOOK by Circus Ponies V 2.1 the following notes about the presentation are by Kali@smalldog.com
Notebook has substance to back up its good looks. (Personally, form always has to have an element of functionality in it to be worthwhile!) So, read on to see what I find so great about it:
1) Simple formats: When you go to open a new notebook, a dialogue box pops up with several formatting options. For example, if you'd like to keep a journal, select that page, and you have a page formatted for paragraphs along with the date at the top (I'm writing this in NoteBook now). Every notebook has a table of contents, indices, and a divider page.
2) Outlining is key: NoteBook uses cells that you can set to perform different functions. If you are in a List mode (ideal for to-dos), the cell is closed once you hit the Return key, and a new cell is created. If you're in Paragraph mode, hitting the Return key just takes you to the next line without creating a new cell. One of the things I like most is that you are able to expand and collapse the tree easily (say, if your list is just too long to look at).
3) The Inspector (gadget): This function is what really gives NoteBook a superior interface. The Inspector is the window that pops up when you hit the small "i" in the lower lefthand corner of the notebook, and it follows the same look and feel that many OS X applications have (Dashboard, Pages, etc.) From there, you can change Fonts, add Keywords or Dates, Colors, Page Backgrounds, Add HTML links... the list goes on. Pretty much every aspect of the notebook can be controlled from here to suit your preferences.
4) The Tabs!: There's something about having a digital notebook look just like my old spiral bound notebooks from school. You can choose to add a tab or delete one easily, change the fonts and colors, and it works fantastically to keep everything looking organized. I've barely scratched the surface of NoteBook's functionality and features (including the ways you can use it to organize digital photo albums and add other digital content), but if I had to sum it up, I would describe it as "elegantly simple". Sure, I could always think of more things I'd like it to do (adding a Customized Template option would be great), but it is simply the best program I've found to track all of the different things I have going on in my personal and professional life.

Thank you for the presentation Pam.
